About Us

Who are we?

A free to attend social, networking and support group for the greater Ōtautahi transgender community.

We meet monthly at the Christchurch Workers Educational Association building, 59 Gloucester St from 7-10pm. A given meetup will typically have some kind of activity, icebreaker or other focal point, mixed with time to mingle, chat and eat snacks. All meetups are free, though donations towards venue hire are always welcome. We are working towards registered charity status, but this hasn't happened yet so for now, ice cream koha box it is.

Who can come?

We are for everyone over the age of 13 who identifies in any way that falls under the transgender umbrella. In addition, cisgender people accompanying a transgender person, such as a parent, partner or supportive friend, are welcome. People who are questioning whether or not they are transgender are welcome as well, or can get in touch outside of meetups with any questions they may have.

What do I need to do/bring?

Yourself. We're pretty casual, no need to worry about dress code or anything. Contributing some of your favourite snacks to share or some money to cover venue hire is always welcome, but not required. You're welcome to bring dinner with you and eat it without sharing as well, just be sure to tidy up your rubbish.

What is the venue like?

The CWEA is a hall, with a small kitchen and gender neutral bathrooms, as well as two smaller rooms we are not currently hiring and thus will not have access to. The building is fully wheelchair accessable. Parking is limited to mobility parking, but there is a parking building across the road. It is a shortish walk from the bus exchange. No alcohol or smoking is permitted on site. Rubbish has to be taken away at the end, so please be considerate of this.

When do you meet?

On the last week of the month. Currently for 2026 we have bookings for Thursday the 28th of May, Friday the 26th of June, Thursday the 30th of July, Friday the 27th of August & Monday the 28th of September. This is not the same day of the week each time, bad for consistency but harder to reliably clash with.
